Chogtrul Luphug Tulku Rinpoche was recognized by His Holiness Penor Rinpoche at the age of six as the emanation of Zhenphen Legdrup, a great Dzogchen practitioner who was the direct disciple of Khenchen Ngagi Wangmo. Rinpoche was enthroned as the abbot of Lhuphuk monastery in Tibet, where he started the traditional trainings in reading, writing, and rituals according to the Palyul Lineage. In 2005, Rinpoche joined the prestigious Ngagyur Nyingma Institute and completed all courses in sutra, tantra, and other sciences, studying under many masters of different lineages. He received the empowerments, transmission, and the profound pith instructions on Dzogchen mainly from his root teacher, His Holiness Penor Rinpoche.
Rinpoche was sent by Penor Rinpoche as his emissary to the coronation of the fifth king of Bhutan in 2008. Likewise, Penor Rinpoche sent Luphug Tulku to represent him in Arunachal Pradesh in performing grand rituals on several occasions.
Currently Luphug Rinpoche is overseeing Luphug Monastery in Tibet by rebuilding its temples and helping its monks receive the traditional trainings. He has served multiple terms as Vice President and President of the Dratsang Board of Council of Namdroling Monastery, and is currently serving as President.
