Practices & Events – Nyingma Palyul Dharma Center

This is a friendly notice that beginning this Tuesday evening, May 19, Khenpo Tenzin Norgay Rinpoche will teach on Patrul Rinpoche’s Words of My Perfect Teacher, which will continue during the upcoming auspicious month of Saga Dawa.

Written by the renowned master Patrul Rinpoche in the 19th century, Words of My Perfect Teacher is one of the most famous commentaries on the Ngöndro (Preliminary Practices) of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, and is widely recommended by teachers today as an essential guide for students on the Vajrayana and Dzogchen paths.

This teaching program is open to all who are interested. Students can join either in person at the center or remotely via Zoom (details below). However please note that the first and second sessions will be on Zoom only.

More About Words of My Perfect Teacher
This practical guide to inner transformation introduces the fundamental spiritual practices common to all Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Words of My Perfect Teacher is the classic commentary on the preliminary practices of the Longchen Nyingtig of the Nyingma School, but is relevant to any tradition. It details the Four Thoughts That Turn the Mind to Dharma, refuge, generation of Bodhicitta, accumulation of merit through the Mandala Offering, purification of negative karma through Vajrasattva, and receiving blessings and merging one’s mind with the wisdom mind of the master through Guru Yoga.Patrul Rinpoche makes the technicalities of his subject accessible through a wealth of stories, quotations from sutras and tantras, and references to everyday life. His style of mixing broad colloquialisms, stringent irony, and poetry has all the life and atmosphere of an oral teaching.

About the Teacher
Khenpo Tenzin Norgay Rinpoche was born in Bhutan. After completing secondary school in 1986, he joined the Ngagyur Nyingma Institute, the prestigious Buddhist studies and research center at Namdroling Monastery in Mysore, South India. At the Institute he studied under Khenchen Pema Sherab, Khenpo Namdrol Tsering, Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso, and other visiting professors, including Khenchen Jigme Phuntsok and Khenpo Pema Tsewang from Tibet. He completed the Shedra program in 1995 and joined the Institute staff, teaching there for three years. He was formally enthroned as Khenpo by His Holiness Penor Rinpoche in 1998 and was assigned by His Holiness to teach at the Buddhist college at Palyul monastery in Tibet. Khenpo-la received all the major empowerments of the Rinchen Terzod, Nam Cho, Nyingthik Yabshi and Nyingma Kama from His Holiness Penor Rinpoche and the Mipham Kabum from His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. Because of his knowledge and experience, and fluent command of the English language, His Holiness Penor Rinpoche assigned him to teach students in North America in conjunction with Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso Rinpoche.
